Freshly baked

After ten days of silence, it's back! A whole new exciting and easy step-by-step recipe for a Dark Chocolate and Orange Cake with Chocolate Ganache – complete, of course with a hand-picked playlist.
Let's get right to it.

Start slow, just like I did, in an effort to get my head around everything. One thing at a time. Take a cupful of sugar. Today was a bit of a quiet and lazy day, and this song never fails to give me the chills, taking me far far away to an impossible place and time. Dance With You by Live. Couldn't think of anything better to begin with.

Two slabs of Amul butter, or 200 grams. I haven't heard this song in ages, and it reminds me so much of my time in art school. Hello again teenage, carefree, happy happy years! I got birds in my ears and a devil on my shoulder.

Mix up the butter and sugar until it forms a wispy and light mixture. Gently – there's no hurry here. The rhythm of this song is perfect for the moment you're in. Samba De Mon Cœr Qui Bat by Coralie Clément from the soundtrack of Something's Gotta Give. Ça va?

Did I say dark chocolate? Break a 50 gram bar of dark chocolate and melt. Keep it aside, you're going to add it into the butter and sugar mixture soon. Let me be your Healing Star... let me take you far away... the smell of the chocolate and the sounds of Dishwalla give you the same sensation. Creepily awesome.

Take two delicious juicy oranges and prep up for some squeezing and grating. With Suburban War by Arcade Fire in the background, you may want to switch off for the next five, and tune in only to the music.

Right, break's up, grate both your oranges for their zest, and squeeze one. Time to wake up now. The night's too long, so when we sleep, I Keep The Lights On. Until the morning comes. Don't you just love this track by Wave Machines. Totally my kind of music video too. Chemical Brothers' Let Forever Be reminiscent.

Stir in the zest and juice and melted chocolate into the butter and sugar mix. It smells divine. Have you heard Bull Black Nova by Wilco? No? Well now's the perfect time. One of the songs I'd give anything to hear live.

Take five eggs, and gradually beat them into the mixture. It's going to be hard to beat that last track, so we're just going to have to take off in a completely different direction. Here's Connie Francis's rendition of Siboney. The song was used in the soundtrack for 2046, the film, that somehow has managed to slip past me without me having watched it. Must remember it's way past due.

One and a quarter cup of flour and a little less than one cup of cocoa powder with a teaspoon of baking powder. Mix them together and sieve. I'm pretty sure you've all heard Anyone's Ghost by The National. Silver Swans' cover is eerier and they've really made it their own. Big fan of The National I am 'tis true, but this is pretty good too.

Lots of my favourites in this post. Caribou's every song could be a soundtrack to any and everything in life. Applicable everywhere. Fold in the flour and cocoa little by little as you listen to Kaili. Try and use a figure of eight motion while folding – I hear this helps. Once mixed, your batter is ready to go into the oven for about 25-30 mins. Remember to preheat at 180ºC.

While your cake is sitting in the oven, stir up the universe and whip up some yummy dark chocolate ganache. Heat up 200 ml of double cream. Take it off the heat and then stir in a 200 gram bar of dark chocolate. Leave to cool and dance! Because I want to buy you something, but I don't have any Money. By The Drums.

That was fun, making you all wait. Unfortunately the cake was devoured before I could get any good shots. But this is what was salvaged. If you do end up baking this, write in and tell me what you thought of it, and of the music too. Have a good Monday.
