World, meet Honey

I did a post a few weeks ago on the music from Iceland. Now I may as well make this an occasional feature on my blog. Country-specific music.

Introducing Punjabi music—in a different light. The last few weeks, I've been inspired. Inspired by Yo Yo Honey Singh. Up until about three weeks ago, I had been living in oblivion. Then I was introduced to the man. Now, I've got some new additions to my playlist.

Riding through the streets in Delhi in an auto sometimes leaves you wondering if you forgot to put your clothes on! No matter how many women they've seen, it's like you're the first of the species. Exhibit A: two fine Indian men, doing the only thing they know how. I bet these guys listen to Yo Yo Honey Singh – particularly this first number – Dope Shope. A Punjabi rapper and a man in a turban singing to hot women in white, aboard a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean. Their fantasy and inspiration.

Last year, a few of my friends got hitched, and I finally realised how much I actually enjoy attending Indian weddings. An Indian wedding is incomplete without the awesome Punjabi music. I cannot wait to attend the next one now that I know of Yo Yo Honey Singh. Summing up Brown Rang using one of the lines in the song "white chicks, nah, I don't like them anymore". Love it.

Wedding bands obstructing traffic – like this one – are a common sight in Delhi. The beginning of winter is marked by such processions. This year they're going to have to pick up a new tune or two, courtesy Mr. Singh. This one's my new favourite. Angreji Beat from the film Cocktail. Don't deny it. If you like Jay Z and Usher, and you're into hip hop, or you just need music which doesn't make sense, to lift your spirits, Yo Yo Honey Singh is the way to go. Here's something I'd like to see though. Yo Yo Honey Singh meets Korean sensation Psy, Brown Rang Style.
